Star Theatre 1

I found a short account that my mother wrote. She sat down with my grandfather was born in the 1880’s and wrote down the story of his life in New York City. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1898 and said one of his past times for entertainment was going to the Star Theatre. He remembered vaudeville shows were good and cost between 10¢ and 15¢. It was a smoking theatre (guessing he meant men were allowed to smoke tobacco) during the shows. He said they had slides when he first started going there and then transitioned to movies after 1900. The slides were used to illustrate songs with pictures. Wikipedia shows the theatre was located at 13th and Broadway.

His attendance of this venue likely ended shortly after the turn of the century because the theatre was demolished in 1901. 2
