I became intrigued with La Reina Rule because I would see her book What’s In A Name?<\/em> quoted as a source for a name origin. When I Googled a very unusual name the only result was an newspaper column LaReina Rule had written about that very name. Who was this lady who knew so much about so many names?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was that question that led me down a research path to discover the woman behind the book, the newspaper column…and maybe even behind a crystal ball. The research culminated in an article: \u201cEdith \u2018La Reina\u2019 Rule (1902-1973): Hollywood Psychic and Genealogist,\u201d California Genealogical Society<\/u><\/a>, The California Nugget<\/em> (Spring 2025), 4-11, and 17.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La Reina and her fourth husband, William K. Hammond, are both credited as authors of What’s In A Name?<\/em> They died within days of each other and share a grave marker at Forest Lawn Cemetery at Hollywood Hills, California. The grave marker below confirms several details relevant to genealogical research. La Reina and William’s death dates, just two days apart in October 1973, are inscribed on a single marker, reflecting their burial in one grave. This unusual circumstance created an interesting probate situation: William died, and because La Reina survived him by two days, she became his heir \u2014 making her estate the ultimate repository of both their assets, including royalty rights to What’s In A Name?<\/em> The probate records that follow in a separate members post reveal the full financial picture of her estate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
